A momentous day at the National Archives!  This morning, September 14, 2012, in recognition of the 225th anniversary of the US Constitution, a team installed the Transmittal—or the Fifth Page—of the Constitution for public viewing.  This document has never before been exhibited at the National Archives, and very likely has never been displayed in its 225 year history.  The parchment is encased in an oxygen-free environment as are the other Charters of Freedom documents. The team who worked together included conservators Mary Lynn Ritzenthaler and Kitty Nicholson, as well as exhibits colleagues, security specialists and art handlers. Constitution Day is Monday September 17.  The Transmittal Page is on view from Friday Sept 14 through Wednesday Sept 19.
