Happy Valentine’s Day from NARA’s conservation lab!The heart motif  is beloved in Pennsylvania-German illustrated family records called fraktur. The motif was widely used to express family and affection. This fraktur commemorates the  1784 marriage of Johanes Stautzenberger and Maria Margaretha  Ritschinden.In this photo, a conservator examines a fraktur to be  displayed in NARA’s Public Vaults exhibit. She will fill the losses  along the fraktur edges with inserts that match the original paper’s color,  tone, weight, and texture.
