The motif was widely used to express family and affection. This fraktur commemorates the 1784 marriage of Johanes Stautzenberger and Maria Margaretha Ritschinden.In this photo, a conservator examines a fraktur to be displayed in NARA’s Public Vaults exhibit. She will fill the losses along the fraktur edges with inserts that match the original paper’s color, tone, weight, and texture.
