Conservation: What We Do

Since you are still getting to know us, here is an introduction to the National Archives Conservation Labs.

The Conservation Laboratory staff preserve records in their original formats, including loose and bound textual documents, photographs, posters, original artwork, architectural drawings, and printed and manuscript maps. We examine and assess the condition of records, identify materials and media present in them, and stabilize or treat documents to prepare them for digitization, exhibition, and research use. Stay tuned for more posts on what we do in the labs!
