The USS Constitution sails again

The frigate USS Constitution sails again. It was launched on October 21 in Boston in 1797. Recently its 1817 sail drawing (RG19 19-4-43) by sail maker Charles Ware returned to storage after conservation treatment. It had been laminated with cellulose acetate, fusing it onto muslin. The plan was digitized after treatment and then encapsulated in polyester film for protection.

Before and after treatments of the USS Constitution outboard profile with sail plan, 1817, by Charles Ware. Original title, “Draft of US Frigate Constitution.” Access on OPA, and zoom in to incredible detail. http://research.archives.gov/description/5956232.
